Abstract

1. Purpose

The purpose of this study is to objectively show that the myofascial anchorage is an appropriate technique used to improve the mobility conditions in patients whose trunk flexion is restricted.

  1. Methods

We have taken a sample of 108 subjects, of both sexes, aged between 17 and 80 years old, and presenting a reduced mobility excursion in trunk anteflexion.

These subjects have been randomized into two groups: the experimental group, in which the myofascial anchorage technique is performed; and the control group, to which a placebo technique is applied.

The finger-floor distance test and the test using an inclinometer have been chosen as mobility indicators.

The parameters obtained from the measurements taken before and after the respective techniques are submitted to a statistical analysis using a Student’s T-test and a no-inter-examiner, double-blind, randomized, descriptive no-controlled study with the factor variance method (Anova).

Significant differences should be found between the measurements performed before and after the application of the technique only in the experimental group.

  1. Results

This statistical analysis shows a significant increase (p< 0,01) in the trunk flexion mobility after the application of the technique in the experimental group and shows no significant changes in the control group.

  1. Conclusions

Therefore, it can be shown that the myofascial anchorage technique, applied to the lumbar triangle, is effective in those patients with a reduced mobility of the trunk in anteflexion.
